Commercial grounds maintenance checklist

A professional exterior should look cared for before a customer reaches the door. Use this checklist to set expectations, catch small problems, and keep routine service consistent.

Discuss your property

Build the scope around the property.

Offices, storefronts, rentals, churches, and community properties do not need identical schedules. Begin with safety and access, then define the appearance standard, service frequency, seasonal work, and reporting expectations.

01

Every service visit

  • Mow turf to an appropriate, consistent height.
  • Edge walks, curbs, beds, and visible boundaries.
  • Blow clippings from entrances, sidewalks, parking edges, and gathering areas.
  • Check sightlines around signs, driveways, entrances, and pedestrian routes.
  • Photograph or report storm damage, irrigation leaks, hazards, and dumping.
02

Monthly inspection

  • Inspect shrub shape, overgrowth, dead limbs, and blocked windows.
  • Review mulch depth, bed definition, weed pressure, and exposed soil.
  • Look for erosion, drainage problems, bare turf, and repeatedly wet areas.
  • Check fence lines, utility areas, loading zones, and property edges for debris.
  • Compare the property against the agreed scope and seasonal priorities.
03

Seasonal planning

  • Schedule leaf, storm, and heavy-growth cleanup before problems build.
  • Adjust mowing frequency to growth and weather instead of a rigid calendar.
  • Plan mulch and bed work around appearance, moisture retention, and weed control.
  • Identify trimming that improves access, security visibility, and curb appeal.
  • Review service notes, upcoming events, occupancy changes, and budget needs.
